Board of Directors

David Shrigley, Executive Chairman

David Shrigley has served as a director since October 2010.  Until the end of 2008, Mr. Shrigley was a member of the board of Wolfson Microelectronics plc, a supplier of mixed-signal chips for the digital market from November 2006, and was its chief executive officer from March 2007. He served as a general partner at Sevin Rosen Funds, a venture capital firm, from 1999 to 2005. Prior to that, Mr. Shrigley held the position of executive vice president, Marketing, Sales and Service at Bay Networks. Mr. Shrigley served in various executive positions at Intel, including vice president and general manager of Asia Pacific sales and marketing operations based in Hong Kong, and vice president and general manager, corporate marketing. Mr. Shrigley holds a B.S. from Franklin University.

David House

David House has served as an STI director since October, 2010.  Mr. House served as Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Allegro Networks, a privately held provider of voice data and broadband services, from January 2001 until April 2003. Prior to that, he served as President of Nortel Networks Corp. from August 1998 until August 1999. Mr. House joined Nortel Networks Corp. when it was merged with Bay Networks, Inc., where he served as Chairman of the Board, President and Chief Executive Officer from October 1996 until August 1998. Mr. House served in senior management positions at Intel Corporation for 23 years. He received a B.S.E.E. degree from Michigan Technological University and an M.S.E.E. degree from Northeastern University of Boston.

John Miner

John Miner is the former President of Intel Capital and an Intel corporate vice president. He was central to new opportunity formation in many markets around the world. Both inside Intel Corporation, and as head of Intel Capital, he developed relationships with prospective entrepreneurs, venture capitalists and potential strategic partners both inside and outside Intel. Prior to Intel Capital, Mr. Miner has been instrumental in leading Intel's entry into new market segments as an Intel Vice President and General Manager of the Communications Products Group, the Enterprise Server Group, and General Manager of Intel's desktop motherboard and PC building-blocks business. Mr. Miner joined Intel in 1983. He is also an investor in and advisor to numerous early stage enterprises, including SeQuential Biofuels, and a Trustee for the Providence St. Vincent Medical Foundation.  Mr. Miner holds a BSEE from Tulane University and an M.B.A. from University of Oregon Mr. Miners serves the boards of LSI Logic, Avnera.

Dan Rooney, Chief Technology Officer

Dan Rooney is the founder of STI and the inventor of the Soil Information System. Dan guided and participated in the evolution of the technology including the vision and development of the software, sensor systems, and analytical systems. He is author to numerous patents associated with soil and topographic surveying. Prior to founding STI Dr. Rooney started a software company (EarthIT) that specializes in web-based information and analytical systems. He still sits on their board of directors.  Before becoming an entrepreneur Dr. Rooney worked for several years for Applied Research Associates, Inc. (ARA) as an engineer developing and marketing advanced geotechnical tools. While at ARA he earned a patent on a tool for mapping chemical properties of aquifers and led the development of new sensors for hydrocarbon and other waste detection applications. Dr. Rooney has collaborated on dozens or R&D projects with the USDA, DOD, and DOE as well as numerous universities. He has a B.S. in Ecology and an M.S. in Soil Physics from Texas A&M University and a Ph.D. in Environmental Monitoring from the University of Wisconsin.

David Vaughn, Chief Executive Officer

David Vaughn has served as President and CEO and as Director since October 2010. Prior to joining STI, Mr. Vaughn held the position of SVP and General Manager for the precision Agriculture Division of Topcon Positioning. Mr. Vaughn has served on the board of Directors for AirIQ (TSX: IQ Elected member of the Board of Directors in May 2007. Elected Chairman of the board in May 2008. Sat on both the Special Committee and the Compensation Committee (Chairman) and The Board of NovAtel until December 07 (NASDAQ: NGPS Elected in February 2001 and Elected as Chairman of the Board of Directors in April 2004. He also held Chairman Position on both the Compensation and Special Committees) Prior to NovAtel, Mr. Vaughn was Senior Vice President and Chief Operating Officer with Magellan Corporation.  Mr. Vaughn was responsible for the day to day operations of four business units, Precision and Commercial Products, Consumer and Outdoor Recreational Products, Driver Information Systems, and Wireless Communications. From 1991 to 1998, Mr. Vaughn held several senior positions with Trimble Navigation including Executive Vice President, Tracking and Communications Products Division. Prior to Trimble, Mr. Vaughn was President and CEO for Magnesys Corporation, a Semiconductor manufacture, from 1987 until 1991. Mr. Vaughn began his career as an Engineer for the Consumer Products Division of Hewlett Packard and completed his 10-year employment with them responsible for all Operations for the Personal Computer Division. Mr. Vaughn than joined Apple Computer as Director of Operations – Macintosh Division. Mr. Vaughn has a Bachelors of Science Degree in Electronics and a Masters Degree in Operations Research from Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo.

John Novitsky

John Novitsky has been a director of STI since 2008.  He’s been an executive in three startups, one IPO’ed (FormFactor), one was acquired (Cooligy), and one busted (MMS); as a consultant, he has helped develop the business plans/raise capital for a handful of start-ups.  Before that, he worked at Intel for 12 years, in various engineering, marketing and management positions on the 386, 486 and Pentium processors.  He has been a mentor in the California Clean Tech Open.  He has a BS in CS from Michigan State University, where he was an Evans Scholar, and took grad classes in EE/CS from the Stanford University  honors co-op program.
